WRITE TO SUPPORT ALES BELYATSKIY! Vaclav Havel PRIZE FOR THE PROTECTION OF HUMAN RIGHTS

Graduates of the First and Second International Courses of Ukrainian human rights education program "Understanding Human Rights", we are offering you to join us in nominating our colleague and prominent human rights activists Ales Belyatskiy from the Human Rights Center "Vyasna" (Belarus) andVice-President of FIDH for a Vaclav Havel award*.

ALES Belyatskiy- is one of the most famous human rights activist at the international level. His activity had been recognized a long time ago. He had been awarded  a prestigious Swedish prize of Per Anger,  was also announced as a finalist for the European Parliament's Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought, has received a Czech Homo Homini Award of the organization People in Need, Human Rights Prize of U.S. Department of State, Lech Walesa Prize and Petro Kelly Awards .

Today the Human Rights Centre "Vyasna" and ALES need our solidarity support. Belarusian authorities wrongfully canceled the registration of the "Vyasna" Centre and because of this Ales Belyatskiy had to get all  financial support for on-going activities on his own accounts. Money were spent on assistance to victims of human rights violations and a number of campaigns to protect public interests. There was no better reason for Belarusian authorities to compel such an disturbing opponent to keep silence as to accuse Ales for an appropriation of those funds and tax evasion. In autumn 2011 he was sentenced to 4.5 years in prison.

To support the nomination of Ales Belyatskiy to the Vaclav Havel Prize  fill out a form before 25th of June 25, 2013.
